Our Writing / Screen Plays

Having been a writer before even playing music, Ricky broke onto the scene in fourth grade, reading his popular series "The Mushroom Martians" every Friday in Mrs. Lopez's home room. The series became an instant cult classic during recess at Western Hills Elementary. Unfortunately, Ricky musical career took over the forefront of his creativity.

Later in college at Texas Tech, under the guidance of Professor Hamilton, Ricky became a prolific short story writer in class Fiction Writing 432. Such classics like "Hit Men Have Feelings Too" was one of the most liked short stories in the 2:30-3:25 P.M. class. Ricky finished his degree in harp performance and left Lubbock, TX. He only needed two more classes to graduate as a Creative Writing Specialist also, but music took him to Albuquerque, NM.

Ricky successfully broke into the orchestra and wedding circuit in New Mexico, but the itch for writing was still there. His early success of being a child writer with "The Mushroom Martians" brought back grand memories of making his classmates laugh. Could Ricky ever grab an audience like that again with pen?

Ricky went for it and began to take courses in screenwriting and quickly found a knack for it. Once his teacher Mr. Bakman asked about a short Ricky wrote, "Why would anyone care about hippies being stranded in the desert by evil Indian ghosts?" Ricky thought long and hard, tension mounted in the eight person class. Ricky turned to the teacher, "Because hippies save whales and everybody likes whales." The class all clapped for Ricky's tough answer, but Mr. Bakman didn't flinch, "Good answer, but that doesn't raise you ten million dollars to do the movie. You give me a story about hippies saving whales from evil Indian ghosts, now we're talking."

Once again Ricky was down on his luck and then suddenly, a whirlwind of traveling and performing in the Polyphonic Spree put Ricky's writing to a skidding halt. The stories took a back seat to the freestyle harp playing. Ricky would stare out into the crowd of thousands only masquerading it with the memories of his fourth grade class for comfort. Not until a break in the touring did it happen, storytelling took a foothold on Ricky's life!

In 2007 Ricky completed two feature length scripts. "Friday Night, Margarita Night" and "Bar Tested" which are ready for the world to see. Ricky finally realized a way to balance his musical career with his bubbling writing career: The world is one big fourth grade class.
